Like any family, City Grace's journey has had it's share of ups and downs.  The beautiful thing is that it holds together through the shared story of the Gospel that runs deep within each and every one of us.  Feel free to read our beginnings by clicking the "Read Our Story" below.

Our story started in 1996. With only a few families gathering and worshiping in the basement of a church building in Royal Oak, Michigan, United International Christian Church began. Who knew that a Filipino Church would be birthed in the middle of Metro Detroit? Pastor Ruel Navarro, and his family took a step of faith and moved to Michigan from the state of Oregon in 1996. Ruel felt the call of God on his family to move to Michigan and pioneer through the blessed work of church planting.

Through bible study meetings and building relationships throughout the Filipino community, UICC began to flourish. The few families that started out meeting in a church basement soon became a large number of people from all over the Metro Detroit area.

Throughout the many years, our church family has witnessed God's miraculous hands at work. Many events have taken place since we started. One of them being the driving passion of UICC itself, church planting. Since 1996 we have actively taken part in planting 13 churches throughout the country of the Philippines. Also, we have been blessed to have sent out people for global evangelistic missions work to Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Philippines, India, Turkey, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, Panama, Peru, South Africa, Honduras, Romania, and Iceland. Church planting and global missions are two of our greatest passions and we are humbled that God has given our church family so many opportunities to serve Him in these ways.

In 2010 Pastor Ruel felt the leading of the Holy Spirit as he did in '96... to church plant again but this time in Virginia. Associate Pastor Johnny Best filled in as Interim Pastor and then was voted two years later to stay on as lead pastor.

During this time, the Lord had been impressing upon the heart of Pastor Johnny and the leadership team to ask the question "What are we doing?" We believe this was the Lord leading us to get back to the mission of the church... making disciples. Just like real life, when things are going well, it's very easy to relax and coast along. In essence, that's what we were doing. The Lord has been so very kind and generous to us throughout this whole process.

Since then, the Lord had lead us to relaunch with a new identity and renewed vision/mission. Based from 2 Corinthians 5:14-21, God is calling us to view nobody from a worldly point of view but allowing the Grace of God to be the foundation in all relationship. Through that, we will become ministers of reconciliation... reconciling God and man together as originally attended.

We are not perfect, nor do we pretend that we are. We just want to love Jesus in the everyday aspects of life and take the opportunity to give God the glory and honor whenever and where ever we can. We have been given the opportunity to serve our cities, neighborhoods, communities and uttermost parts of the world for the sake of the Gospel... so we are going to do just that.

What others HAVE SAID

OUR VISION IS OUR MISSION

City Grace Church exists to glorify God and make disciples who make disciples both locally and globally.

We desire to see a world of members from every nation, tribe and tongue worshiping God and Glorifying Jesus with their one life.  This isn't going to happen by hoping for the best. All Christians are to be disciples of Jesus. As we journey to learn from Jesus in every area of our lives, we are to be intentional in helping others find and follow Jesus until we leave this earth.

To help us live out God's Vision and our Mission, we remind ourselves of the 3 E's.

ENGAGE

ENGAGE GOD

We ENGAGE God through our worship. Not just with song, but with our ENTIRE ONE LIFE. It's from the core understanding that in ALL things, we are to give Glory and Honor to God.

EMBRACE

EMBRACE PEOPLE

We EMBRACE others with gospel centered relationships. Paul speaks to the christians in Corinth (2 Cor. 5:11-21) reminding them that we are "ministers of reconciliation." The grace that we receive from Jesus, is the same grace that we give others. So no matter what someone might be going through, there's grace for it!

EXPAND

EXPAND GOD'S KINGDOM

We EXPAND the Kingdom of God primarily through relationships. We call this "living life as mission" or "being missional."  It's understanding that in every aspect of your one life, you have purpose. That purpose is to glorify God and make disciples. Through relationships in our neighborhoods, recreational activities, workplace... God wants to use us to speak the Gospel and proclaim the good news for others to experience God's radical love.

We realize that following Jesus is a PROCESS, not a PROGRAM.  There is flexibility and creativity that will vary from each individual. We encourage YOU to walk out in the things God is doing in YOUR life, in YOUR particular circumstance for His Glory. What this may look like with one person might not look exactly the same with another. The common factor though is that we are striving for the Gospel message to be proclaimed.

2017 THEME - cITY GRACE ONE

Above all, you must live as citizens of heaven, conducting yourselves in a manner worthy of the Good News about Christ. Then, whether I come and see you again or only hear about you, I will know that you are standing together with one spirit and one purpose, fighting together for the faith, which is the Good News.
— Philippians 1:27

If City Grace Church disbanded, would Metro Detroit miss us?  With so much division and arguing in our country, the world doesn't need anymore examples of divided Christians and Churches.  This year, 2017, as City Grace Church...

  • We commit to live our one life in a manner that makes Jesus famous.
  • We commit to stand with each other regardless of the situations we face.
  • We commit to be proactive in building God's Kingdom each and every day.

TOGETHER, WE ARE CITY GRACE ONE

Our Doctrines of Faith

Click the text below for an expanded detail view

We believe that the Bible is God’s Word and it is without error in the original manuscripts, and it is the final authority in faith and doctrine, as well as all other practices and behavior that we may observe personally and corporately as a church. (2 Timothy 3:16, 2 Pet. 1:20-21, Psalm 119)

We believe that there is One Triune God who eternally exists in three persons– the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. These three persons are inseparable and co-equal in power and nature, and eternally united in will and purpose. (Gen. 1:1-2, 26, Deut. 6:4, Matt. 3:16-17, 28:18-20)

We believe in God, the Father, an infinite, personal spirit, perfect in holiness, wisdom, power and love. We believe that He concerns Himself mercifully in the affairs of each person, that He hears and answers prayer, and that He saves from sin and death all who come to Him through Jesus Christ. (Luke 10:21-22, Matt. 23:9, Jn 3:16; 6:27, Rom. 1:7, 1 Tim. 1:1-2; 2:5-6, 1Pet. 1:3, Rev. 1:6)

We believe that Jesus Christ is the Incarnate Son of God who took on the garment of humanity so He can die on the cross for our sins. He is the Lamb of God. slain before the foundation of the world to be the Savior of men. He was crucified and was buried, but on the third day, He bodily resurrected, ascended into heaven and will soon return as King of Kings and Lord of Lords. (John 1:1-5, Phil. 2:5-11, Col.1:15-20, Heb.1:1-6)

We believe that the Holy Spirit is the third Person in the Triune Godhead, sent by the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ to indwell and seal believers to secure our eternal salvation. He is the giver of spiritual gifts to the church so that every believer can function and serve under His empowerment. (Jn. 14:16-18, 26, 16: 7-15, Gal. 5:16-18, 22-26)

We believe the Church is the Body of Christ for whom Christ is the Head, and composed of every born-again believer from the time of Pentecost to the rapture of the Church. It is a living entity through the Holy Spirit in whom we were baptized into at the moment of faith. This called-out body of believers in the local church is the visible manifestation of the Universal church, through whom God will work out His plan as mandated in the Great Commission. (Matt. 16:18, Acts 2:1-21, 38-47, 1 Cor.12:12-20)

We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ has committed two ordinances to the local church, baptism and the Lordʼs Supper. We believe that Christian baptism is the immersion of the believer in water into the name of the triune God. We believe that the Lordʼs Supper was instituted by Christ for commemoration of His death. We believe that these two ordinances should be observed and administered until the return of the Lord Jesus Christ. (Matt. 28:18-20, Rom. 6:3-5, 1Cor.11:23-26)

We believe that all men are sinners and deserving eternal death because of Adamʼs sin. Our sinful nature was the residual effect of that sin that cause men to be totally depraved and cannot know God on their own. It was only Godʼs mercy through Christ that we received salvation. (Genesis 3, Rom.1:18-32, Rom. 3:23, 6:23)

We believe that salvation is through the finished work of Christ on the cross. We can only be saved when we appropriate for ourselves through faith His atoning sacrifice which came by Godʼs grace. It is a faith that is active– we know and understand it in the mind, as our hearts actively trusts in Him, and our mouth confesses the “He is Lord”. (Rom. 5:8-9, 6:23, 10:9-13, 1 Tim. 2:3-6)

We believe that Satan was a fallen cherub and an arch enemy of God. He is a spiritual being destined to be cast in the eternal lake of fire, along with all those who will follow his lead. He is actively working in the world today against God and His church in as futile attempt to derail that which God has already divinely decreed. (Isa.14:12-15, Ezek. 28:12-19, Eph. 6:10-13, Rev. 20:10-15))

We believe that we are currently living in the last days as prophetically described in the Bible. We believe that Christ will first return for His church invisibly, in an instantaneous event call the “Rapture” of the church. This will be followed by a great time of tribulation and trial comes to earth that will last for seven years. After which, Christ will return visibly to earth to rule it from Davidʼs Throne for a thousand years known as the Millennial Kingdom. (1 Cor. 15:50-55, 1 Thess. 4:13-18, 5:1-11, 2 thess.2:1-12, Rev. 20)

We believe that Christian marriage is a sacred institution ordained by God for the well being of mankind and the propagation of the human race. It is the spiritual and physical union of one biological man and one biological woman according to Scripture. (Gen. 2:24, Mat. 19:4-6, Eph. 5:22-33)

CHURCH MEMBERS = CHURCH PARTNERS

We feel that church membership carries with it the similarities of the type of memberships you'd find with your favorite store or gym. Show up, pay your fee and reel in the benefits. That is NOT how Jesus's church is to function.

With City Grace, it's an "all-hands-on-deck" situation. I need you, you need me and we all need Jesus. We partner together in mission as we advance the Kingdom of God.

City Kidz (Toddler - 3rd Grade)

City Kidz is a fun environment for children to learn about God and His love for them.  We want our children to know who God is, learn how to apply biblical truths to their lives and care for one another and the world around them.

We meet each Sunday during the main service and provide the children with exciting songs, a gospel-centered lesson and a fun craft and games to help drill the lesson home.

CURRENT SERIES:

DIVE IN - A SUPER FUN 8-week series to teach young people how they can know Jesus more by "diving in" with their lvies.

MUSTARD SEEDZ (4th - 6th Grade)

Mustard Seedz is a group of 4th-6th graders who meet during the main church service. We usually will watch a dvd lesson and then discuss the material with the Bible. We are a young and energetic group so we'd LOVE to see you hang with us.

Every now and then, we meet with the older group SWITCH for what we call "Switch Ups". Usually we worship, play games and get to hang out with the older kids. It's a lot of fun.

SWITCH (7th-12th)

Switch is a relevant and diverse group of high school and middle school students. We gather every Sunday evening in Lathrup Village starting at 5pm for a time of connecting, goofing off, learning, being heard, accepted and appreciated. We usually meet at the City Grace Church facility but other times we'll meet in peoples homes. Make sure to check the church calendar for up-to-date info.

Every generation has to decide what their response is to Jesus and His Great Commission. We foresee discipling a generation of young people that will passionately and boldly engage God as worship, embrace others from all walks of life with His grace and live their one life to the mission of expanding God's Kingdom on earth intentionally and proactively by making the SWITCH from death to life!

GRACE GROUPS

Grace Groups are our weekly gatherings in the homes throughout Metro Detroit. Sundays are great but you can only go so deep and connect but so much. For 6-week intervals, we eat together, pray together, study Scripture together, serve together and have fun together! We have a saying, "We don't invite you into our meetings, we invite you into our lives." Message us below if you'd like to get involved and we'll direct you accordingly.

CHARIS

Charis is the Greek word which means "grace that affords beauty." This is our women's ministry. We get together several times throughout the year to encourage  and challenge one another in our faith and our womanhood.

Check the church calendar for meeting times and schedule.

Marriage Matters

Marriage Matters is the couples ministry at City Grace Church. We meet several times a year in various places such as peoples homes, restaurants or parks when the weather is nice. We gather to encourage couples to strengthen their relationship with Christ so that all other relationships will be God honoring. If you have any questions, please feel free to drop us a message and we'll be sure to get back to you soon.

GRACE IN MOTION

Grace in Motion is just a name that helps us to easily identify when we are making intentional movements with our everyday lives in physically expressing the grace of God. Once a year we switch our worship service up by replacing our typical Sunday morning gathering (songs, biblical teaching) and go into our community and serve.  We don't want to be just another church IN Metro Detroit, We want to be a church FOR Metro Detroit.

In the past events we've worked hand-in-hand with the City of Lathrup Village helping in their corridor cleanup. With trash bags, gloves and a lot of sunscreen we picked up all kinds of trash along Southfield Rd helping make our city look beautiful. We've also raked leaves, mowed yards, pulled weeds and planted flowers for individuals who are unable to get outside and work their yards.

If you are interested in having us serve or if you are interested in serving, shoot us a quick message and let us know.

Don't see what you're looking for?

No worries. We are ALWAYS looking for more effective and creative ways to grow both individually and collective in our faith. Send us a quick message and let us know what's on your mind.
